LittleJoy – from the folx at Groundwire Coffee | LittleJoy is a happy little coffee bar opening soon in the heart of downtown Northfield.
LittleJoy is the acknowledgment that life isn’t always full of unicorns and rainbows.
LittleJoy is also the belief that there’s no day so terrible – or – no day going so swimmingly well – that it couldn’t be made better with a small dose of really great coffee served by a barista with an average to large-sized heart.
Our names are Caitlyn, Carrissa, Cody, and Tim. Together, the 4 of us are on a mission to add joy to the lives of others with a vision of a community where everyone has the opportunity follow their own passions.
The origins of LittleJoy begin with Riverwalk Market Fair, a bustling crafts and farmers market, where – as it seems – the entirety of Northfield’s populace – and then some – routinely shows up to support the local bakers, wool spinners, wood turners, and crepe makers. It’s where we (Caitlyn and I [“I” being Cody]) launched our roasting company, Groundwire. In addition to our floppy, blue tent and a few too-sturdy-for-lugging-around folding tables, we had a pour-over station, and we – very slowly – brewed coffee for strangers. The response was incredible. In fact there was one Saturday we couldn’t make it to market because of something trivial like someone getting married. During the ceremony – riveting as it was – I couldn’t help but notice that Groundwire’s social media had received several messages from caffeine deficient market-goers, the subject matter ranging from sadface emojis to borderline death threats. By the end of that first season it was clear that we had met many new friends who believed in what we were doing and encouraged us to take it further. The seed was planted.
By the summer of 2018, Carrissa Glarner (Salto Coffee Works, UP Coffee Roasters) and Tim Hollinger (Brick Oven Bakery, Dogwood Coffee Co.) came on board. As the story goes, the four of us became an unstoppable, coffee-slingin’, joy-bringin’ force, who would stop at nothing to make someone’s day. And it made our collective day as well – having the chance to serve the coffees we’d so carefully sourced, roasted, and prepared ourselves. Through our time spent at the Riverwalk Market, engaging with the community and hearing your feedback, we realized it was time to do something special. LittleJoy was born.
Why We Need Your Help
The money from this campaign will go towards the completion of our buildout in the historic John Sitze building in Downtown Northfield, MN. We believe in doing the best you can with what you have, so we’ve done most of the construction ourselves. With no bank loans or outside investors, we’ve put all of our time and money into this project, and we just need a little more help with the finishing touches – some of which include…
- unexpected electrical service upgrade
- convection oven to fresh bake a certain Dundas bakery’s eats and treats
- counter tops
- payroll to compensate our staff for training
Every investment thus far has been – and will continue to be – aimed at improving the experiences of our guests.
Thank you for reading and may your future be filled with so much LittleJoy
