Peaceful Soldiers – Baking a Better World | We bake banana bread to donate to homeless people and donate one loaf for every one sold!
As someone who has experienced homelessness, I know that finding your next meal can be one of the biggest sources of stress, and options are limited by the lack of safe food storage. To that end, I am in the process of creating a home cottage bakery at my new house, with an initial focus on baking banana bread to donate to the homeless. I plan to sell my product at farmer’s markets and the like as well, and for every loaf I sell I will donate one loaf directly to a homeless person.
At this point you may be thinking, why banana bread? In addition to being one of my favorite things to bake, banana bread is healthy, filling, and most importantly, shelf stable for at least 48 hours at room temperature, which makes it more ideal for any population without effective food storage options. Furthermore, I believe it is a wonderful comfort food that can bring a smile to anyone’s face, and if I can provide even fleeting moments of happiness to those in need, I will consider that a success.
I am baking mostly by hand right now, which will soon be untenable given the scope of what I would like to accomplish. This campaign will help me to raise initial funds raised to go towards taxes/insurance ($500), licensing/Indiegogo fees ($500), donated loaves/ingredients/equipment ($500), and of course paying for all of the Indiegogo perks ($1,000).
