Pink Lane Bakery is expanding! | It’s time to grow Newcastle’s favourite bakery. Help us make you more delicious things.
We’ve been baking delicious things at the top of Pink Lane for 7 years. Everything we bake you is made fresh, daily, in our tiny 35m2 shop. You all love what we’re doing, we know because you tell us! So to keep up with our expanding customer numbers we really need to spread out a bit.
We saved up, and looked all over the city for some extra space. We’ve found a brilliant place on Gosforth High Street, in an old Fire Station. It used to fit two fire engines, so you can imagine what a scale up it’ll be! Don’t worry though, we’re definitely keeping our Pink Lane shop too.
With more space, we can make you more delicious things. It’s as simple as that really. More bread, more cake, definitely more sausage rolls. And what we’re really excited about is expanding our range of products, we’ve got such ideas for savouries, sandwiches, pastries, new breads, lots more cakes….
You can help us do it:
We want to involve everyone in our development, you’re such an important part of our business and we love being your friendly local bakery. We need your help now to make the new Gosforth place ready to serve customers.
£10,000 will enable us to open properly as a retail space. We’ve saved our profits for most of a year to fund all our new kit (big new ovens! a laminator to make amazing croissants!) so we’re going to be able to start making in the new place in September. Your help will get us the final stretch to being a proper shop with a lovely wooden counter, person sized (rather than fire engine sized) doors, some beautiful lighting, a full diary of bread courses..
You know us, we’ll open out of the shutters with a folding table on weekends to begin with whatever happens, but you can really make this new place special. It’ll be like our shop at the moment, you’ll be able to see into the bakery to watch what we’re making, chat to the bakers, see exactly what’s going on while stocking up on breakfast, lunch, cakes for the office, bread for the weekend.
We’ve made you an exciting list of rewards to say thanks for your support, have a good look and see what you’d like.
Why are we asking for help?
Our customers are the reason we love what we do. The breakfast time chat, the bacon sandwich banter, the watching your kids grow up, the rosemary you pruned and bought in for our sausage rolls, the box of quality streets when we got burgled. You support us so much already. We want to build our new place with your help and support too.
These dark Brexitty times with high streets becoming grim parades of vape and betting shops… it’s not what we’re experiencing. We see loyal, engaged customers who care about local food and the people who make it, who support independent businesses and care about their community. We wouldn’t be doing what we do if it weren’t for you. And we want our new place to feel the same, we looked and looked to find somewhere that wasn’t on an anonymous industrial estate. That wouldn’t have been fun or community minded or fitting with the way we work. When we found the fire station we knew you’d love it too.
We don’t raise all the money? We’ll get going with what we’ve got but with very limited retail opening hours to begin with.
You can’t or don’t want to give us any money? No problem, we’d love it if you could help us spread the word, on your social media, to your friends in the pub and let your mum know, she’d probably love our gingerbread.
